I first visited Kanchipuram in my college times alone...(for that I got scoldings from all my family,friends my present Hubby then he was just a friend :) )Then i took my mom there once. Both the time i prefered TTDC day tour package as it included Mahabalipuram also.
The third time i went with my dear near Hubby.It was on bike...woww!!!!!! Then recently me and my hubby took my in law parents to Kanchi. This was by BUS from TNagar.
Even though 100s of Temple are rthere in Kanchi,I visited Godess Kamaakshi amman temple which is most famous in Kanchipuram.Godess Kamakshi is one of the form of Godess Parvati. Guru Shnakaracharya idol also being worshiped in the same temple area.
Varadarajar temple, is a form of vishnu. Its a very big temple with idol in standing position. It is an old belief that One can wash out his/her all sins by touching the golden lizard. The Golden lizard is situated in a part of the temple and attracts the most tourists to the temple.
Ekambereshwar temple, is form of Lord shiva. Here is the holy oldest mango tree under which Godess parvati offered worship for L:ord sahive to get marry her. a small parvati idol is worshiped under the tree.
A krishna temple where he is in his Vamana Avtar.The idol is of 32 feet hight and the specilality is one leg is on King Bali's head and the other leg is raised in the sky.The whole idol is made from a single Black stone.
Another Krishna Temple.here the Krishna is in the form of represetatve for Pandavas going to for the meeting with Duryodhana (Sandhana karya...) Another shivan Temple which is very old and formed in the mud mixture. No stone is used for the Temple building.But as part of the renovation patches are seen to retain the old architecture.
